By: Kim Harrington Synopsis: Clarity “Clare” Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It’s a gift and a curse. When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare’s ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case- but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare’s brother, who has supernatural gifts of his own, becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most? Review:This book is great for readers of all ages. The main character, Clare is ultimately Veronica Mars with psychic abilities. She is a completely realistic teenager. The other central characters in her life are her telepathic mother, Starla, who can read minds. And her brother, Perry, who is a medium that talks to dead people. Outside of her family there is a whole cast of characters that make great potential suspects to the murder and a solid support for Clare and her family in this supernatural thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. CLARITY has something for everyone, there is action, adventure, mystery, romance and a whole lot more. I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did and can only give it praises. The characters jump off the page to exist in a world that is fully developed by the author, who has put a great deal of thought and care into them. The tone of this book is very suspenseful there is never a point when the reader will be able to say that they have solved the mystery of who the murderer is and what their motive might be. The overall conflict in this book is strong. There is a sense that a lot is at stake for Clare both personally and emotionally if she is unable to solve this case. For a debut novel, Kim Harrington proves that she has a handle on writing for young adults and can create an enjoyable piece of fiction. I look forward to reading more from her and can’t wait for the future entries in this series. I am glad that this is my first 5 star review for Fearsmag.com.
