{New York, NY} - Mystery Writers of America is proud to announce on the 198th Anniversary of the birth of Edgar Allan Poe, its Nominees for the 2007 Edgar Allan Poe Awards, honoring the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction,television and film published or produced in 2006. The Edgar Awards will be presented to the winners at our 61st Gala Banquet, April 26, 2007 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, New York City.

"The Departed" took home the movie screenplay award, while HBO's "The Wire" received the teleplay prize.

The novel honor went to Jason Goodwin's "The Janissary Tree," and Alex Berenson's "The Faithful Spy" was named the top debut novel by an American author.

Other winning works included Naomi Hirahara's "Snakeskin Shamisen," James L. Swanson's "Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer," E.J. Wagner's "The Science of Sherlock Holmes" and playwright Steven Dietz's "Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure."

Stephen King was honored as the year's Grand Master.

Al Roker hosted the event at Gotham's Grand Hyatt Hotel.
