The
Vicious Sweet
Salt City Video
review by Terry
Wickham
After
reading the quote on the box cover, I was looking forward to watching
this videounfortunately it doesnt live up to its praise and was
a disappointment. The whole film hinges on that the lead character
is suppose to be a horror film star, played by Sasha Graham. This
is the films major problem, because I couldnt believe for a second
that she is a star. The actress doesnt have the qualities that
stars have. Instead were forced to see her performing an overwritten
script with no touch of subtly. It doesnt help that she is surrounded
by limited actors who dont get any help from the writer-director.
This is a perfect example of whats wrong with most micro-budget
horror films. Many fans have proclaimed their disgust for movies
shot on video, thats not the reason this film doesnt work. Whats
wrong, is that we must endure endless lines of boring exposition
through dialogue. Characters talk about what has & will happen rather
than just showing it. When we do see something actual happen it
comes off stiff, wooden and forced. Most of the films Im talking
about have this flaw. If you look back on good horror films, most
of them show us as much as they tell us. Unfortunately that doesnt
happen enough with this film. Director Ron Bonk needs to learn to
make more critical choices and realize repetition doesnt equal
effectiveness. Throughout the film, he constantly repeats different
shooting and editing techniques, which really distracted me from
focusing on what was happening in the movie. It cheapened the movie,
making it feel like an nonprofessional production. The film moves
at a snails pace, never creating suspense or any kind of atmosphere.
I wouldnt actually recommend this for anyone, except die hard fans
of Sasha Graham. I hate being so negative, because I always hope
to watch a good film. But I have to call it like I see it.
