Titanic 2000
Seduction Cinema, 1999
review by Terry Wickham
One night my wife and I had friends over. Things had been a little tense that day, we wanted to watch a movie that could generate laughs and we wouldn't have to think too much about. Titanic 2000 was exactly what we were looking for. Somewhat silly and done totally over the top, this is a funny little movie trying to capitalize on the success of James Cameron's masterpiece. The film doesn't take itself seriously and establishes a satirical point of view right from the beginning.
The film takes a couple of more recognizable scenes from Cameron's film and turns them into moments of comedy. The famous scene where Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) sketches the drawing of Rose (Kate Winslet) is used for maximum laughs. Like most E.I. Independent releases, vampirism is part of the film's storyline. The film would have actually worked better without the tired vampire angle and if the filmmakers opted for a straight (if you can used that word) Airplane like approach.
Director John P. Fedele plays a multitude of roles in the film and I have to admit the guy is pretty funny. E.I. regular Tina Krause supplies the standard nudity.
