Overall,
I enjoyed this new film from Russell (Razorback, Highlander)
Mulcahy. The film is a tale that proves the dead are better left
alone. In 1948, Sir Richard Turkel (Christopher Lee) and his men
discover the tomb of an Egyptian Prince named Talos. Little do they
know, Talos has set a curse for anyone who disturbs his rest. Immediately
the expedition is met with horrible death and the Princes place
of rest is returned to normalcy. That is until, a new party excavates
the tomb fifty years later. I found some of the movie a but predictable,
but it does its best to give us credible performances, solid camerawork
and innovative special fx. I liked Razorback, Highlander
and Ricochet more than this film, but Id say it's Russell
Mulcahys fourth best film so far. It is really great to see the
legendary Christopher Lee back in the movies. He is always a pleasure
to watch. He certainly qualifies as one of the princes of the horror
genre. I thought it was pretty cool how they made the mummy move
in this film. The use of bandage wraps has never been more creative.
I was kind of surprised to see actress Shelly Duvall. It's been
a while since I've seen her in anything. With all the choices of
video out there to rent, this is one of the better selections out
there.
