The 'wreckers' are a band of motley modern-day pirates who use the
beam from the lighthouse to guide passing ships smashing into the
rocks, then raping the women and killing everyone on board. One
dark night (though brightly lit by movie lamps!) the Captain's horrid
henchmen rape two young women in white, survivors of a wreck, and
smash their skulls, ending their young lives. Kinda.
The girls
come back to haunt the Captain and his mates. Joelle Coeur is mainly
unworried, preferring to dance naked and turn on the men around
her. Only the captain has fear of these appartitions, but a barroom
psychic's abilities convince the Captain the girls must be about,
and are his doom.
Following his
themes of paired women (here the girls are so close they are almost
Siamese Twins, their blond hair and white night dresses blending
together into almost one beast), and even a clown (a descendent
of one of the clowns from Requiem for a Vampire, even played
by the same actress, Mirielle Dargent), who leads the frail ghosts
to a man of professed magic. The pirates attempt further kills on
these ghosts, but they cannot be done away with so easily. It takes
more than ambushes to rid them of these dogged beasts.
Plentiful in
its female breasts, generous in its bloodletting, fantastic in its
story and filmmaking style, The Demoniacs is yet another
notch in the Rollinian ouevre, one that adds subtles touches and
brushstrokes across the erotic horror master's already brilliant
canvas.
Image's fine
transfer is a letterboxed presentation includes the original French
theatrical trailer, and three still galleries totalling 29
