I honestly
can't understand the attraction that any human being would have
in trying to injure themselves in car crashes. But the whole idea
comes from David Cronenberg's warped mind, so I guess it shouldn't
come as a surprise. I just couldn't get how anyone (even a fictionalized
movie character) would be attracted to physical destruction and
disfigurement.
As
a movie, Cronenberg regular Peter Suschitzky films it beautifully.
The score by Howard Shore is guitar driven and kind of disturbing.
The
story or lack of is really the film's biggest weakness. We are subjected
to a bunch of car wrecks and never ending sex scenes. The sex feels
like someone's personal fetish (wouldn't doubt Cronenberg) and all
together Crash doesn't come across as a movie. Because there are
so many sex scenes, the film is repetitious and boring.
The
actors all put forth a good effort but I just didn't care what was
happening on the screen.
