Brendan
Fraser stars as Elliot Richards, a clueless, geeky nerd who is in
big time need of a lady. There is a girl in his office Alison (Frances
O'Connor) whom he has a crush on, but he's too frightened to approach
her. In walks the Devil, who is played by Elizabeth Hurley. This
part seems designed for Hurley as she plays the silky, sexy princess
of darkness to the hilt. Elliot is so desperate to be with Alison
that he ends up selling his soul for seven wishes. But they always
say be careful for what you wish for.
Fraser
is able to comfortably fit himself into the character. He ends up
playing multiple kinds of characters because he changes with each
wish he makes. One character is emotional; another is tough and
various other levels of personal confidence, expression and appearance.
Fraser also is able to be a dork and to his credit, he somehow always
gets you to like him.
There's
no doubt guys will go for Elizabeth Hurley. Between Hurley's vivacious
body an English accent, she makes a succulent adversary. This may
be the best role I've seen her play so far. She seems to relish
the opportunity of controlling Fraser's character like a puppet
master.
Director
Harold Ramis has made better films than this, but Bedazzled will
make you laugh.
The
movie looks and sounds crisp and you will enjoy the making of featurette.
There are also two audio commentaries, still photo section and "Bedazzling
Designs with Deena Appel," which breaks down Hurley's wardrobe.
