Steven
Gutheinz is a talented young music composer who is on the right
track to make it in the film world. His music crosses the threshold
of emotion and he has a real gift for taking classical music and
shaping it for films. He's worked on films with a variety of subject
matter and his music reflects this.
Selections
is a collection of tracks from these films Mr. Gutheinz has worked
on. We get a taste of some of the finest work I've heard on a low
budget level.
"The
Crossing" - is patriotic and grand. Gutheinz captures the similar
feel to John Williams. "Red Alarms" - has nice dialog between sax
and orchestra. "The Dream" - is moody with classic orchestra sound.
"Dementia" - features great orchestral backing, a high wire of strings,
brass and percussion. Goldenthalish.
"Cracking
Shadows" - a sad and lonely violin interplays with an emotional
piano playing. Reminds me of something Thomas Newman or Mark Isham
would do. "Trois -Main Title" - has a sound rich with heritage.
Could fit in a historical theme film. "The Drive" - features warm
colors that are created by the orchestra. "Spectrum of Light" -
soft and delicate piano leads the strings to the light at the end
of the musical tunnel.
"The
Night Ferris Bueller Died" - frantic and intense cue in which the
strings grind away and the piano keys are pounded to submission.
"Midnight Movie" - happy and inspired tune that captures high emotion.
It has an absolutely beautiful ending to the song. "Symphonic Prelude"
- suspenseful cue that builds up to a dramatic conclusion. Not necessarily
a dark, cut but rather happy and upbeat.
"Men
Like My Father" - moody and important feel is created on piano.
"Interlude" - sweeping composition comparable to what John Williams
did in JFK, Born On The Fourth of July or Saving Private Ryan. "Music
For Saxes, 2 Violins and Piano" - kind of an improvisational jam
between instruments listed. "Feather" - fairly light cue that is
peaceful and tranquil. "Breakfast" - sounds like something to listen
to while with family members sitting at the table.
"Spaces"
- piano makes a powerful booming entrance, song has a dark ambient
feel. Doom floats in the air. Gutheinz has impressive control and
doesn't overkill it. "All Hallows Eve" - is somewhat melancholy,
but pretty at the same time. "Trystesse" - mood is established that
is both dramatic and easy going. "Everything After" - relaxing and
heartfelt. Almost silent in the beginning, but it expands out nicely.
"Goodbye"
- I can visualize a friend or family member leaving to go away.
"Of Light and Darkness" - macabre mood is quickly established through
orchestration and powerful male & female voices. Creepy.
