You head to the biggest pop culture party east of the Mississippi – The 2008 New York Comic Con that was held the weekend of April 18th to 2008th in the Jacob Javits Center. With even more space, more celebrities, more exhibitors, more professionals, and a massive turn out of fans, this show is growing by epic proportions that rivals the growth of event the legendary San Diego Comic Con. FEARSmag was there to meet and greet the fans, adding over 4,000 new fright fans from across the country to their fright filled rosters. Attendees who filled out slips to receive our newsletter were able to draw cards for one of several theatrical posters and got a second chance for a drawing of prizes that included action figures and DVDs. Sunday April 20th was Kid's Day and any kid under the age of 12 who could quickly provide their date and year of birth received a SPEED RACER poster, compliments of Warner Bros.
FEARS’ executive editor Joseph Mauceri provided a special trailer presentation each day to help warm up the audience waiting for the day’s festivities to kick off in the IGN Theater. Here were also some gaps between presentations on Friday and Sunday where Mr. Mauceri railed the fans and offered a few more trailers. Among the trailers on the reel were – Speed Racer, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Indiana Jones, Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D, The Love Guru, The Happening, Son of Rambo, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, The Strangers, Get Smart, WALL-E, Hancock, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, The Dark Knight, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Amusement, and Star Trek, to name just a few.
If you missed the party you’ll have to wait until February 2009, but in the meantime you can seek out your FEARS fix at the upcoming Big Apple Convention, Chiller, and Monster Mania. Also, FEARS’ friend, author CJ Henderson will be providing some smaller conventions on the East Coast with some goodies and smaller trailer presentations, where applicable.
